JOIN RAFIKI RELAY FOR EDUCATION - AS WE COLLECTIVELY TAKE ON CAIRO TO CAPE TOWN!

Wow, what an amazing Rafiki Relay we had! More than 2,000 pairs of feet, £16,223 raised and a whopping 103,791km cycled, walked, run or swum over 6 weeks in spring 2021! We finished Cairo to Cape Town in only 6 days, so went on to conquer the coastline of Africa, the Equator and returned to Cairo before the 6 weeks were up!

Didn’t get the chance to take part? Fear not, you are welcome to download our collated milestones booklet! Explore the 33 amazing places we visited (virtually) and read about the young lives that the Rafiki Relay teams help us transform! All we ask in return is that you sign up to our mailing list! We will not bombard you, just keep you posted on our fabulous events and the impact your support will have.

A fabulous opportunity for all ages and all abilities to come together and virtually explore fascinating landmarks and spectacular sights as we make our way through Africa, passing 12 exciting milestones. Our interactive map will show our combined progress in real time, as we witness and learn along the way about some of Africa’s most beautiful scenery, while raising funds to enable education for young, disadvantaged people in Kenya, Uganda and Lesotho. Read more about our work and the life transforming impact your support will have!

You will be in great company supporting our relay! Join the incredibly inspiring, talented and accomplished Olympic heroes Tim Foster MBE and Mara Yamauchi, Cerebral Palsy England International Football star Harry Baker and Amar Latif the Blind Adventurer! Read more

Our relay is great way to nurture your health and well-being as we continue to find our way through the Covid 19 challenges. You can walk, run, swim or cycle – or any mix of the above. You choose a distance to challenge yourself and which fits in with your daily routine. Upload your exercise manually or through your fitness tracker.

Take part as an individual, with a friend, as a family or with your school! Invite your colleagues to take part in a few teams and help your company broaden their Corporate Social Responsibility portfolio. Our leader boards will provide great competitive stimulus, as you can see everyone’s distances, by group segment! Everyone who raises £10 or more through their fundraising will receive a Rafiki Relay for Education medal! Not only that, but for every £20 you raise you will receive an entry into our prize draw – so the more you raise, the bigger your chance of being the lucky winner of one of our fabulous prizes!

Our Cairo to Cape Town route is a staggering 13,222 km so this is a huge challenge! We are giving ourselves 6 weeks to complete the journey and will need as many participants as we can muster, in order to arrive at Table Mountain on 6th June. So please do recruit your friends, family, colleagues, neighbours and school mates to join in the fun!

The registration window is now open! Our challenge starts in Cairo on Monday 26th April, so you have 4 weeks to rally your friends to take part (it is possible to register after this date, but the participants will have less time to join in).

Join us for relay ready-steady-go in Cairo on 26th April

3 SIMPLE STEPS – WE LOOK FORWARD TO MEETING YOU IN CAIRO ON 26th APRIL!

  1. Enter below choosing one of the options available
  2. With the access code you then receive, complete the registration process on rafikirelay.bigteamchallenge.com
  3. Set up your sponsored fundraising on JustGiving

1. ENTER THE RAFIKI RELAY FOR EDUCATION

We want everyone to be able to join in the fun, so you are welcome to register for free, with a fundraising pledge. Our hope is that you will take this opportunity to fundraise for us and that together we will raise enough to support many more children with education. You also have the option to enter paying a small voluntary donation to cover the cost of your entry.

You can enter on your own or as a team of up to 5 members – as we think challenges are always more fun with friends!

We also want to encourage schools and school classes to enter! Make sure to read the FOR SCHOOLS section as well, as it works a little bit differently!

TAKE ON YOUR CHALLENGE WEARING A FABULOUS RAFIKI RELAY FOR EDUCATION T-SHIRT!

In order to make relay registration free, we also decided to make it optional to purchase our fabulous Relay for Education t-shirts! We hope you will want one though and would love to see photos of you on our social media wearing these as you rack up your kilometres! read more

2. COMPLETE YOUR REGISTRATION

Once you have confirmed your entry details above, you will receive an e-mail confirmation from us which includes your RELAY CHALLENGE CODE and a link to our Big Team Challenge platform where you complete your registration. The relay challenge code is provided for you to access the event, and must not be shared with anyone else.

There are two simple steps. In ‘Sign Up’ you will provide your personal details, and in ‘Create Team’ you will be able to send invitations to join your team and choose your team segment for the leader boards – great for a bit of friendly competition! Please note that even if you intend to take the challenge on your own, you will need to provide a ‘team’ name.

There are 5 segments to choose from and you will choose the one that best describes your team:

  • ‘Solo’
  • ‘Family & Friends’
  • ‘Works Teams’
  • ‘School classes’
  • ‘Schools’

Please note children under 13 will need an adult to complete the registration for them.

Make sure to download the Big Team Challenge APP on your smartphone as well! You can register on your desktop or via the app, following the same steps as above. Once up and running, you can connect your tracker and/or manually upload your daily distances on either.

3. SET UP YOUR SPONSORED CHALLENGE ON JUSTGIVING.COM

Your registration is now complete, but we would love it if you take the opportunity to make this a sponsored challenge in aid of Rafiki Thabo, by setting up your own sponsored challenge on ,https://www.justgiving.com/start-fundraising. To make setting this up as easy as possible for you, we have written some information about Rafiki Thabo, the Relay for Education and what the money raised will fund, in this document

Alternatively, you can make a donation and/or direct your sponsors to our central Rafiki Thabo fundraising page https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/rafikirelay Please do note however that we will rely on your sponsors to add your name in their comment in this case, to help us see who is raising what and how much, and thus when you are eligible for a medal and the prize draw thresholds. They can enter for example: “My donation is in support of Joe Bloggs and the goal he set himself in the Rafiki challenge”.

Teams can choose to create a joint fundraising page, or each member of the team can set up their own. Whichever you think will be most impactful on your friends and family. Using Just Giving means you will be able to connect your page(s) to Rafiki Thabo Foundation as we are a registered charity on their platform. This way we will have full visibility of your fundraising and can reward you with your medal and prize draw entries!

CELEBRATION OF ACHIEVEMENT!

We are absolutely beside ourselves with excitement – as we will be inviting the team and the individual who raise the most through their relay fundraising and the team and the individual who covers the biggest distance in the relay, to an amazing opportunity!

We will celebrate your achievement in an online meeting with Tim Foster MBE! Tim will share anecdotes and stories and answer your questions! This is an absolute privilege, and luck is not involved – your determination to succeed is! It is that simple – keep an eye on the leader board and make sure you run, walk, cycle or swim the furthest, and push your fundraising through your Just Giving page to the limit! We can’t wait to applaud you, together with Tim!

PRIZE DRAW

For every £20 raised by an individual participant (whether taking part ‘solo’ or as part of a team) – you will be awarded one entry into our prize draw. So, the more you fundraise, the more chances you will have to be one of the lucky winners!

Win some fabulous prizes, including:

The amazingly talented Ben Williams, a member of the world-famous Magic Circle, the world’s most prestigious magic society, has generously donated a most fabulous prize in aid of Rafiki Relay for Education, an evening of magic, especially for you! Ben will entertain you and your guests with astonishing tricks for 2 hours. This could be at a party or special celebration you are hosting, at your company’s Christmas party, at the end of year school assembly, this is for the winner (you) to decide. If the winner is hosting at a venue within 100 miles distance from Godalming Surrey, then Ben will attend in person at no cost to the winner. If the winner’s venue is further afield (more than 100 miles from Godalming, Surrey) then Ben can either offer a virtual show (the winner would need to arrange suitable AV projection) or should the winner wish, Ben will still attend in person, but this would be subject to the overnight accommodation and travel being covered by the winner.
